Why do we need SEO?
Because What Google WANTS - Google GETS!
Or else it can simply change the rules!
SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization, which means having your website following best practices in the eyes of the search engines, such as Google, in order to rank higher in the search results and attract more clicks through by visitors.
In reality, Google is the most popular and widely used search engine and they simply want to ensure that their searchers are provided with the best possible results to match a given search query. If your website doesn't compare well with your competitor's in Google's complex assessment process then your website won't be in the running.
Understanding how Google makes its assessment of a website's value to a given search requires an understanding of several areas of expertise, but generally it's good practice to begin with a look at the website's intended objectives by looking at the page content and targeted keywords, including both visible content aimed at visitors and non-visible information that should ideally have been put there to help the search engines.
It's also very dependent on your given market and the merits of your competitor’s websites as to how much work may be required in achieving a good search engine ranking. Sometimes their sites may only be better than yours in minor aspects, in which case the work required may be minimal to make a large difference in your ranking position.
